The Use Of The Percussive In Ritual ~ Presented by Tim Dockins

Tim Dockins, whose motto is Hac Lege Vincimus, is a inveterate student of
life, part-time dabbler in the occult, and doctoral bound college student.
A member of Ordo Templi Orientis since 1993, Br. Dockins is a member of
Bubastis Oasis in Dallas, Texas.  He serves his community as an ordained
priest of the Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica and as a chartered initiator.

Drawing on his training in computational science and artificial
intelligence, Fr. Dockins seeks spiritual illumination from a skeptical
point of view.  This often lends a scientific and theoretical approach to
esoteric studies in magick, yoga and the occult.  From time to time, he
attempts to put his theories into practice.  Sometimes with success.
Sometimes not so much.

This present work, an exploration of the use of the percussive in ritual, is
in-line with that approach.  A review of its use in several cultures is
first presented.  Then, centering on the knock in Western hermetic ritual,
particularly as presented by Aleister Crowley in Chapter X of Book 4: Magick
in Theory and Practice, a dictionary of knocks of 11 is developed.  First, I
intend to show how to derive the permutations of 11 knocks given the
constraints of symmetry and order-dependence.  Then, we'll discuss how the
meaning of a battery of knocks is encoded in its permutation.  At this
point, a systematic approach to developing the dictionary should be
possible.  A practical guide will be provided to the attendees.
